Heavybit Industries

This three-story warehouse was converted into the headquarters of Heavybit Industries, a new community workspace designed for early-stage companies building cloud developer products. Near the entry is a platform built from stacked laminated plywood sheets that functions as a reception desk, lounge area, stage, and landing for the project’s centerpiece: an impossibly thin custom staircase suspended from a series of ½” x 3” steel fins welded to steel channels. The stair is enveloped in hexagonal perforated steel that references the company logo. Also on the ground floor is a conference room and bike storage area located behind a wall of reclaimed wood, glass, and a custom barn-door on a steel track. Conference rooms on the upper floors are accessed through sliding polycarbonate doors. IwamotoScott topped off their award-winning design with one-off pieces such as “the rope room” and the “hexfabric” and “hexsteel” lighting fixtures.
